AGOL Compatibility
Is there anyone here that has used Access Control in ArcGIS Online? I would be very interested in hearing about your experiences with using Access Control in AGOL versus using it with ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.
We have an app in Portal that we are thinking about getting Access Control for, but this app will be moved to AGOL in the next year or so. We just want to make sure we really want to go through the trouble of installing, setting up, and configuring Access Control for this app or if we should go a different route.

Hey Chris Schrader, for context VSAC functions as a proxy that sits in front of the ArcGIS web adaptor on ArcGIS Server. ArcGIS Online is essentially ArcGIS Enterprise deployed in Esri's environment. The limiting factor here is that Esri doesn't allow custom code in AGOL, I imagine this is both from a security context but also permits the scalability that allows AGOL to be much more flexible. As such, VSAC is only compatible with on-prem ArcGIS Server.
One potential solution is to use ArcGIS Server + VSAC deployed on-prem (could be in a cloud context), and use ArcGIS Online as the identity source.
