how can i send runworkflow commands with arguments to a html5 viewer in an iframe?

we have an html5 viewer working in an iframe.  we would like to send runworkflowwithargument commands to the viewer without bringing up the viewer again, such as zoomto or highlight or other simple commands.  is there a way to do this without bringing up the viewer everytime.
