csv date format

Hi All

 

When exporting a results table to csv we are getting some strange results with the date field:

 

Sighting Date

 

‎9‎/‎06‎/‎1973‎ ‎9‎:‎30‎:‎00‎ ‎AM

 

‎10‎/‎06‎/‎1973‎ ‎9‎:‎30‎:‎00‎ ‎AM

 

‎4‎/‎07‎/‎1990‎ ‎9‎:‎30‎:‎00‎ ‎AM

 

 

When exporting it as an xlxs the format is fine (regardless of the time which I understand is a known issue):

 

Sighting Date

 

?9?/?06?/?1973? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?10?/?06?/?1973? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?4?/?07?/?1990? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?4?/?07?/?1990? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?4?/?07?/?1990? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

However if I then try to save the spreadsheet as a csv the format is still weird:

 

Sighting Date

 

?9?/?06?/?1973? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?10?/?06?/?1973? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

 

?4?/?07?/?1990? ?9?:?30?:?00? ?AM

It seems to be related to all layers that have a date field, not just a sinlge layer. Has anyone else seen this behaviour and know of a work around?

  I should note that I have tried reformating the date field, and stripping out the time code in xlxs prior to saving as a csv, but I still get the same results.

  Hello Chris,

  The software that you are using to view the exported file is likely not loading the correct encoding. If you are using Excel to load the CSV, this is most likely the issue.

   

  Notepad++ has an encoding selector in the menu bar, and does a great job at detecting the file's encoding.
