Site Inheritance

Is there any way to 'break up' with site inheritance? I created a site a couple of years ago based on another site that I now want to delete. The original site contained map services that no longer exist (and have been removed from the site) but my new site shows errors about these former services.

  Like any ending relationship, I think trying to make a clean break up is the best thing to do.

   

  If you need to maintain the existing URL, then you can re-add the inherited services directly to the site and transfer the configuration (a lot of which you could streamline by copying and pasting setting from map service to map service in your site.xml).

   

  If you don't need to maintain the existing URL, then a rebuild from scratch is your cleanest option. It might take longer, but you'll also be guaranteed to clear out 100% of any inheritance that way.

  It appears that simply removing

   

   <ExternalConfigs>

    <ExternalConfig SiteID="" />

   </ExternalConfigs>

   

  from site.xml will remove the inheritance.
