Geocortex Web Viewer (GWV) Beta Program
Thank you for taking the time to check out the Beta version of Geocortex Web Viewer (GWV). Your questions, comments, ideas, and feedback are welcome, and our team will be actively watching and interacting with you here in the Community.
Since Esri first announced a new ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.0 in mid-2016 Latitude has been planning and building the next generation JavaScript viewer for our Geocortex customers; and there is still a lot to do!
In the future (2-3 years) GWV and the Esri ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.x will have matured to match and exceed the current Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 (GVH). Until then, GWV focuses on the unique capabilities associated with the Esri ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.x that Geocortex customers may need today:
- Side-by-side or toggleable 2D map and 3D scene visualization
- Performance optimization made possible by the new API technologies
- Improved control over color, and visual branding
- Clean, fresh visualization of results on the map, and in lists, tables, and detail views
- Familiar I want to menus, toolbars, and contextual menu options
- Extensibility using 5-series Workflow and Reporting
- An updated configuration and management experience backed by a new configuration model
To get started, we suggest you retrieve a copy of our guided exploration and interaction plan and work through the task-based guide to gain a good understanding of GWV and GWV Designer in just a couple of hours.

If you are a subscription licensee, we suggest working in our SaaS environment for the Beta to get up and running quickly. You can access GWV at the link below and you should be able to sign in using the same ArcGIS identity you’ve been using to access other 5-series products.

If you are a perpetual licensee (or a subscription licensee keen to try GWV on premises) you can access a Beta version of the installer in the downloads section of the community. As with all Beta versions of Geocortex software; there is no upgrade path from Beta to Release so be sure to install it in an appropriately ‘disposable’ location.

Help documentation is coming along well, and the latest version can be accessed directly from Designer or at this URL:

We’ve worked hard to provide you the best Beta experience we possibly can, but it is still work in progress so here are some important things to know:
- Applications built in this Beta version will need to be re-built when 5.0 is released; we expect a few additional changes to configuration formats between Beta and Release.
- GWV on mobile devices isn’t ready yet. We are still working on some significant bugs preventing proper behavior on mobile devices.
- There is an outstanding issue that prevents the attribute formatting settings from the webmap from being properly respected; currently your Region or Map Layer settings in Designer will always take precedence.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hey Isaac - if you are signed into Communities.geocortex.com you should see the on-prem installer in the downloads section. If not, let me know and I'll chase down why you can't see it there.

A few folks were having difficulty signing in yesterday. Tracked down a problem related to authentication and licensing grants that should now be resolved. If anyone is still having difficulties signing in please let us know and we'll figure it out.

Had a question recently about how you create an application that "toggles" between 2D and 3D. If you start with the "Default Web GIS" template and then configure the map component with a web map AND web scene of your choice ... the map component in the application will automatically show you the 2D/3D toggle button. For best results ensure there is some shared layer data between the 2D map and 3D scene so that as you toggle back and forth you can see GWV maintaining the context.

Morning everyone. Beta for GWV has now ended. A big thank you to everyone who participated and who provided feedback. We are now working on some final bits and pieces prior to General Availability. Stay tuned for an announcement before end-of-month letting you know that GWV is available.
With thanks,
Cam
