Unable to connect to Portal Web Maps: {"error":{"code":499,"message":"Token Required","details":[]}}
We are just starting to play around with the new web viewer and when we put in one of our Portal item IDs to test a web map, the designer takes it with no issue. Nothing shows up on the map however and when checking fiddler, it shows the error above. The install had no issues with registering the web viewer app to our Portal and the particular web map we are trying to bring in is shared with the organization. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I got the same issue as you mentioned in the designer. I found out the designer is unable to authenticate but the viewer seems to be OK.
The workaround is to share the web map or web scene to public. Once you finish the configuration in the designer, you can set the sharing permission back to what it should be.

@Greg Anspach? @Husen Kang?
I was out of the office last week so am just following up now.
What you are describing may not expected; but I need to clarify a few things.
Q1: When you sign into Geocortex Web Viewer Designer are you signing in with an organizational ArcGIS Online identity or with a Portal for ArcGIS Enterprise identity (this assumes we've setup a yourOrg.apps.geocortex.com sub-domain for you pointing to your on-premises Esri portal)?
Q2: Does the item ID you are trying to use live inside the same Esri portal you are using to sign-in with, or a different one?
Answers to those should help me get started on figuring out what is going on for you.

Hey Cam, I did try what Husen suggested but didn’t work for us. We are signing in using our Portal for Enterprise. I’m not too sure about the sub-domain setup you are referencing and don’t recall it being in the ‘on premise installation’ documentation. The item ID does live inside our Esri Portal. If we point the webviewer designer to a different item on our AGOL account, it will work fine. Thanks! 0 -
Thanks for the quick reply Greg. So everything is running on-prem?
Local deployment of Geocortex Web Viewer against a local Esri Portal instance? (sub-domains only apply when you are using our SaaS environment with your on-prem portal)
If you are willing ... it might be worth a short screen/teleconference call to see what you are seeing and see if we can a) fix it for you and b) learn if there is something we've missed.

Thanks Cam, Everything is indeed running on-prem with local deployments of both the Web Viewer and Portal. We can set up a screen share if you like. Thanks again! 0 -
Greg - shoot me a note at cbarnard@latitudegeo.com and I'll set something up in the near future (tomorrow morning your time if you have a slot free).

Thanks for you time this morning Greg. If we discover something of note, we'll let you know and post it here so others can benefit.

Hi again Greg.
Cool that it is working Web Viewer now. Can you visualize that same layer in App Designer (or does that still not work?).
Also ... I didn't write down what the security back end was (four letters, beginning with S). What was it?

Hey Cam, So with further investigation, we are experiencing the same issue now that Husen mentioned earlier. If the web map is secured to the Organization in Portal, it will show up in the web viewer but will not in App Designer. If I put in a web map item ID for a service that is not secured and open to everyone, it will load in the App Designer and the Viewer. I’ll upload the Fiddler sessions for the secured web map that didn’t work in App Designer into the Box link that I gave you Friday. The security/authentication backend we use is called Shibboleth or commonly called Shib. Most universities use this for authentication. Thanks! 0 -
Hi Greg - after some diligent investigation by our team we have been able to reproduce the issue you were experiencing and are working on a fix. We anticipate this fix will be in place for our 5.1 release (end of April). If you are interested in a release candidate build to verify on-premises prior to that we can arrange that for you as well.
Thanks again for taking the time to let us know about the issue, and to spend some time capturing traces that allowed us to track down this pesky bug.

That would be great, Cam. I would be happy to test it out with a release candidate build for verification. 0 -
@Greg Anspach? 5.1 is available for download. Time permitting give it a try we should have resolved the errors you were previously encountering.

Hey Cam, I just did some internal testing on my end. The web map services work exactly as expected for the designer and viewer. Everything renders correctly and depending on group/organization permissions, users may not have access to the viewer, depending on the web map’s permissions, which is great! They will also get an ‘invalid portal item reference’ if they are in the designer and try to add a portal web map item# that they do not have permissions for. Thanks for getting this fixed! 0
