How to get a Distinct query when using Parameters?

I want to run a multi layer report and get distinct values. If I am using parameters I get an error message. The report is run from a workflow passing in parameters. If I take roads as an example, I want a listing of all roads within a census area. I use the census area geometry to query the Road Centrelines. The roads result will have multiple features with the same name. I pass in the census id and the road ids as report parameters. When designing the report however, it wont allow me to use a distinct query when parameters are used. (see screenshot for message). Any ideas how to achieve this?

  Never mind. I can do what I want with Group Headers.
