edit a feature layer
What's the fastest way to throw a AGOL hosted feature layer into a Geocortex 5 web map and then configure it to be an editable layer? I am only just diving into this Geocortex 5 world so I could just be missing something here. I can't see any "create features" tools or similar like there is in 4.

Hi Peter,
If you are using Geocortex Mobile, there is a template workflow 'Add Feature', which uses the input web map details as configuration and guides the user in the process of creating features.
There are also a couple of public sample workflows that you might find useful: Add Feature and All Feature Editing Activities.
Thanks, Stefan

Hi Stefan, thanks for the reply.
I was actually talking about the Geocortex 5 Web Designer but perhaps after reading the FAQ's, feature editing is not supported. I actually want to edit existing features more than add new ones. Is the ability to edit features far off ?

It is possible to perform feature editing through workflow currently, but in terms of direct feature editing, that it not currently supported in Web.
Please add this to the Ideas section for us to consider.

@ Stedan When will editing features directly sans workflow be available in Geocortex Web Viewer I thought it would be at 5.6 but no editing, no buffering...

Sorry Stefan

Hi Cattyann,
Since it is possible to edit features and buffer through Workflow currently, we don't have a specific backlog item for this. Please add your name to an associated idea, if it is currently listed.
Thanks, Stefan

Cattyann, perhaps add to this as I'm a Woryflow newbie so might have missed the idea target 🚀

@Stefan Schweigert? So the tools from the HTML 5 viewer will only be available via workflow only in GWV 5 instead of out of the box?

Hi Cattyann,
That depends on the feature. In this case, since there is already functionality to support editing through workflow, bringing this feature into Web isn't as high of a priority as other features that we'd like to bring into the product first, unless there is high enough demand.
Thanks, Stefan

is there a video or demo site showing how to edit a feature using a workflow in a web viewer? if it's pretty straight forward the priority would be lower that if it's clunky.

Good discussion here, thought I'd chime in as the Geocortex Web product manager.
In the mid-to-long term there will be out-of-the-box tools for add feature and edit feature. It is important to have a clear, simple way to do these things without needing to build a workflow. I will be keeping these out-of-the-box tools very simple.
When it comes to Geocortex Web, even a simple tool requires a fair bit of thought because we need to ensure we are supporting both 2D and 3D use cases, and that the tools we provide are WCAG AA accessibility compliant. This means, in practice, that we can almost never use Esri's default implementation.
As Stefan said, the fact that these use cases CAN be accomplished today using a workflow has given us some discretion in the timing of these out-of-the-box tools.
I am mindful of the many, many times I've heard from our customers feedback on existing out-of-the-box tools where they want to:
* Limit editing to certain attributes (I want my field workers to change attributes a,b,c but NOT d,e,f)
* Limit editing to attributes only (don't let my field workers change the location, all they should be doing is updated the attributes)
* Limit editing to location only (my field workers should not be changing the attribute data, I've only sent them into the field to verify the correct location of the asset)
* Restrict different types of editing to different roles within the organization
* Provide instructional text within the editing experience to better guide users in what is needed for a particular attribute
* Provide a custom flow / guided interaction for a dedicated editing use case
... all these examples are things that can and should be accomplished using an editing workflow and that will NOT ever be part of a simple out-of-the-box editing tool
In principle most of our customer get and agree with the idea of having a simple out-of-the-box tool and then using workflow for more sophisticated use cases; but fun and consistent observation is that a particular customer's user case is often argued for as being 'the norm' and belonging in the simple out-of-the-box tool 😃
Hope that provides a bit more context.

Thanks for the response, interesting to learn about the WCAG AA aspect too. It seems like it's on the cards at some point. I can't comment too heavily as haven't dived into the world of Workflow 5 yet so perhaps it's not that hard anyway. I just really wanted to confirm that there was no out-of-the box way to move a point! thanks!

What is the exact timeline on out-of-the-box feature editing for Web? I'm currently about to start a migration and the project wants the latest and greatest with minimal fuss. Is there a WK5 you can share that provides editing functionality in the short-term?

Hi Colin,
Please see Cam's comment above.
Thanks, Stefan

Hi guys - coming into this conversation rather late - but interested to hear how the 'editing' works via Esri Named User model. I haven't started with any workflow5 editing as yet with GXW or GXM, but I assume we cant just replicate all our current edit tools in GVH5 using GE Workflow (using the cut/union/add etc activities) into equivalent buttons in GXW without facing an extra cost with Named Users subscriptions? This is a big issue for us moving forward - and I suspect many others??
cheers

Feature Attribute Editing has arrived in Geocortex Web. A new workflow creation template has been added allowing the editing of feature attributes. Add a feature action to an editable feature layer, Create New Workflow, and select the Feature – Edit Feature Attributes template. The resulting generated workflow is trivially easy to modify giving you full control over the attribute editing for that feature. Remove attributes. Reorder attributes. Make attributes read-only. Add instructional information for specific attributes. Create a tailored editing form for each type of feature with ease.
