How to add XY from uploaded xlsx or csv file?

I'm having a great deal of difficulty getting this to work. I feel like it should be simple

All I want to do is

1. display a file picker,
2. have the user upload a .csv or .xlsx containing XY coordinates
3. have the user select the x and y columns
4. read the file
5. create points and add as graphics to the map.

Does VertiGIS have a sample workflow that does something like this? I can get the file and have been using 'get text from file' (only works with csv, no idea how to read xlsx values?) but I'm really struggling to work with the outputs successfully. should I be converting it to JSON somehow?

I'm quite happy to tell the user to format the input file how we need it, so it would be the same schema every time.
