Web Viewer - Waiting for Report

RELEASED: Web 5.15

Currently, geocortex web "waits" ten seconds for a report to complete before the wait menu mechanism disappears. The user is not given any feedback that the report is still running. When the report is done - a green menu appears that the report is done with a link to download.

 

I would like to suggest that the wait time be exposed as configurable in the web designer. For example twenty seconds.

 

A comparable solution using workflow would be adequate, but sometimes it's just nice to not have to make a workflow too :)

  Hi Jake - good feedback. This is based on a somewhat recent change allow info and success messages to auto-dismiss-themselves after a time.

  
  

  There is a mechanism built into the 'notifications' subsystem that lets you turn this off (this is why the green 'success' message doesn't auto-dismiss as it would in other contexts ... but digging into it it doesn't look like anything we exposed as a parameter to the run.report command.

  
  

  I probably won't be able to give you exactly what you are asking for (variable time) but I can probably make it so that you could choose not to have that first message auto-dismiss at all. I could do that behind the scenes as a 'reporting should never auto-dismiss either the info or the success message' or I might be able to work it into an argument to run.report. I also thought I'd try a solution that adjusted the language from the current "Report <report title> has started." to "Report <report title> has started in the background, you will be notified when it completes." or something like that. Again that language isn't exposed as something I can change via configuration, but could be adjusted behind the scenes.

  Coming soon - simplest solution was just to remove the 'timer' from the first info notification so that it stays on the screen until the green 'done' with link appears.
