Whilst drawing on the map using the "draw polygon" tool (sketching.capture-geometry), holding down the left mouse button whilst moving it simply adds more nodes to the polygon:

By way of explanation. The click to draw freehand is enabled for sketching.capture-geometry to enable freehand lines and polygons. Whereas for measurement the idea of 'freehand' doesn't really make sense and so the left mouse button to move the map is still enabled (if you haven't tried it ... you can actually hit spacebar when doing measurement to toggle between distance and area (line and polygon).
I couldn't find a simple way to change those default behaviors, not sure if we need to, but I do think we need to provide a way to move/pan the map while doing sketching.

Since I didn't see it listed anywhere else, I've added a request to add map panning while sketching to the Ideas section in the hope that it can be added in a future release. This is an on-going issue several of our workflows.

It seems like the idea from Jeff Kapellas is no longer avaliable. But what is the status on the issue regard panning while sketching while still being able to sketch freehand?

A key modifier was added in 5.27 13 Dec 2023
“Added a key modifier to allow the map to be panned while the user is sketching a geometry. When the space bar is held, the arrow keys will pan the map instead of moving the next vertex target.”

Hi, thank you for pointing that out. It would be very welcome to update the docu page of the Geometry Picker Form Element with this side note. If it wasn't for this blog post, I don't think I would make the link between the VSW Map component key modifier and the freehand Geometry Types in the WF element easily.
A short statement “Click and drag the left mouse button to draw freehand types. Hold space bar + click and drag the left mouse button to pan.” could be very useful.

Sander Van Raemdonck … the tech writing team has been making great progress the past few months at ‘catching up’ on some keep feedback and updates. We have a task to go through Studio Web, capture, and re-organize the information on keyboard controls and modifiers so it is all in one convenient place.
