Image management for sites
RéponduIs there a best practice for managing images used in sites? I am looking for a place I can put them on the install machine to access them via url. Or do I need to be hosting them as portal items, then consuming them? For example, if I have 10 custom thumbnail icons, is there a place within Web Designer for me to put them and access them?

In the map component you can add layer thumbs. Either with a file upload to Portal/AGO or point directly to a URL.
If you file upload it will add the image as an extra resource on the item ID of the app - similar to how custom libraries work. If you point directly to a URL its literally just a pointer within the app.json - iconUrl property on a layer extension.
We use image URLs and store them in our websites hosting platform - less moving parts with using a URL.0 -
Thank you for the reply Andrew Adamson. I was hoping for way to manage images globally within the application. If I have to put them onto a webserver myself, I will go that route too. For example, I am in Basemaps. There's a Basemap Thumbnail URL property to set, but there isn't an upload in this module like there is for layer thumbs. I was just hoping there was some location at the install location to drop images and use.

Once you've saved your app. You can just add a file to the image component and Designer will take care of stashing it in your Esri portal, and updating the URL to the stashed location. Lots of folks miss this because the option isn't there until you've saved the app at least once since we need somewhere to stash it.
