Can I synchronize only a selection of features?

When taking the Go app offline, I wonder if it is possible to take only a selection of features offline.

It seems as if the downloaded items are only determined by the extent of the map area, but in my use case, I'd like to have features that are filtered by a layer definition.

If I use a maparea that is predefined in Portal, only the synchronizeReplica is called, but this does not seem to have an option for layerdefinitions.

If I manually create a maparea in the Go app, the createReplica method is called. This does have a layerQueries parameter, but any layer definition set does not seem to be honored.

Is this possible at all? Can I do this in a custom Mobile app?
