Capture layer names in expressions

Is there anyway to capture the names of the layers included in a print and use these names to define text shown in the print output?

To explain a little more, I have some separate copyright text that I need to be included based on whether certain layers are selected (aerial photography, charts etc.). This is simple enough to define in a workflow, but wondered if there was anyway this could be done directly in the print template?
