This issue has also been pointed out by our customer and end-user and it would be great to have a better visual distinction between group-layers and layers.

It would be great if we could have more control of the visibility of the group layer checkboxes to.
I have a use-case where we would like to hide the checkbox for the parent layer (group layer), so users only can expand it and toggle layers on/off at that level.

The option to add a info button in the layer list is also something customers are asking for.
Here is a example from another application:

Agree with all of above, I've just spent hours trying to emulate the Essentials HTML viewer look and feel, and it's proving to be a real pain pre-loading css and all that.

If we can get the scale italics back that would be good also. ie. when over the layer's max scale, the layer turns grey. Our users can't stand the extra text to tell you to zoom in more. Strange idea that one.

so 2 main things from our end.

    1. Group layers greyed out if parent layer not chosen

    2. layer greyed out if over max scale

generally, just some more controls over the look and feel would be great. font sizes for layerlist items, padding reduction,  indentation options, check box location and options perhaps?

    thanks

    Gareth

Hi Cam Barnard. I was just discussing this with my manager, and the desire for a more compact, intuitive layer tree is real. This idea has 13 thumb ups and 5 followers, and my similar idea post has 9 thumb ups and 4 followers. Can you give us an update on if and when some changes to the layer list will be coming? Thanks!

  • Dear,

We can only confirm that a lot of end-customers have similar issues with group layers in the lay-out. For many users that are making the transition from GE to VSW, it feels like a step backward and introduces great disappointment. We notice that this Ideas post has the status ‘Planned’. Could you elaborate, please? What actions may we expect from VertiGIS?

    Kind regards,

    Dear,

It would also be nice if higher-level layers were automatically activated when a sublayer is activated. With multi-level grouping, it would otherwise be very tedious to have to click through everything.

    Kind regards

    Sinje

I fully agree with all of the above :) Would be nice to have the possibility to make a bigger distinction between group- and sublayers. Multiple users within my organization have complained about this issue.

Glad I'm not alone on this one. Wondering when this could be fixed. We’re keen to move our users from HTML5 to VSW, but the current layer list is extremely confusing and difficult to use, which tends to turn users off on their first attempt.

Would be nice if the following bug would be fixed.

342616 Browser zoom level and browser type affect the visibility of Layer List hierarchy lines

The vertical hierarchy lines in the layer list are often not visible at browser zoom scale 100% (and become partly visible when changing to 90% or 110%, but check also other zoom scales)

In FireFox they are not shown at all.

  • We suggest adopting a more logical approach when using the “Set Layer Visible” action on a group layer's parent layer from the Layer List. By unchecking all sublayers/child layers accordingly, the UX could be much impoved.

As it's related to the concerns expressed in this post, I'm sharing the link to the Ideas post here: Set Layer Visible action - uncheck sublayers accordingly – VertiGIS Support
