How to troubleshoot issues

Installed Vertigis Printing 5.20 and it opens but trying to create a print fails with "Bad Request". It mentions using 'development mode' for details as to what failed but searching the docs here I have no idea how to get into 'development mode' to troubleshoot further. Overall there are no errors other than this on the site. Where do I go for logs to troublshoot?
