Upcoming timezone changes for BC and AB
British Columbia and Alberta no longer observe daylight saving time.
That means that this Fall when others ‘fall back’ the time will stay the same in BC and AB.
In the official timezone records, BC is now bound to MST and AB is now bound to CST.
Or perhaps more accurately:
British Columbia moved to permanent -07 on 2026-03-09
Alberta moved to permanent -06 on 2026-06-18.
Expect Windows updates in September/October 2026 to address this, and updates in other operating systems and ecosystems as well. Updates to other software such as Microsoft Office may take longer.
The teams behind VertiGIS Studio are examining our code to determine the impacts.
Keep track of the list below to see which products are still being checked, which are complete, and whether there is an impact.
If you are a customer in BC or AB with VertiGIS Studio installed on-premises, you should expect that at least one of your VertiGIS Studio products will need to be updated in your environment sometime before November 1, 2026 to have it reflect the new timezone change.
