VertiGIS Studio Road Ahead - June 4th Highlights
VERTIGIS STUDIO ROAD AHEAD WEBINAR - JUNE 4th HIGHLIGHTS
HEY DID YOU KNOW?
ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 was released approximately one week ago. VertiGIS is actively performing compatibility testing across the Studio product suite and will publish a formal compatibility article once testing is complete. Early results are positive.
The Esri Marketplace retirement. The Marketplace website was retired in March 2026, with backend scheduled for retirement in March 2027.
The largest impact for VertiGIS customers is the discontinuation of Esri's Hosted Widget Program. Hosted widgets will not be available for Experience Builder in ArcGIS Online. Experience Builder widgets continue to be supported, but deployments will require on-premises deployment.
RECENT RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS
Studio Mobile 5.41 was released in April and upgraded to ArcGIS Maps SDK 200.8.1. The release expanded Local Data Management capabilities to support listing and deleting offline basemaps and introduced filtering and sorting capabilities.
Studio Web 5.41 upgraded to ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript 5.0 and added support for 3D basemaps. Printing functionality was enhanced with support for generating single grid and line-based prints directly from feature selections, along with upload support for larger jobs.
Studio Desktop 2.0.1 was released as a high-priority maintenance release. It introduced the first version of Workflow Debugger Mode for ArcGIS Pro and added geocoding support to Map Navigator.
Workflow received usability improvements including enhanced built-in language string management and significant improvements to expression editor suggestions.
Access Control 5.9 focused primarily on security and technology updates, while also resolving issues related to ArcGIS Workflow Manager integration and federated non-hosting ArcGIS Enterprise servers.
Printing 5.30 introduced a static IP address pool for SaaS deployments, simplifying firewall and network configuration for organizations with strict security policies.
Updated Workflow Widget for Experience Builder that now supports Experience Builder versions 1.17 and 1.18.
Support for Experience Builder 1.19 is currently in development. The delay is related to Esri's adoption of React 19, which requires foundational updates across both Studio Web and Workflow before full compatibility can be delivered.
SECURITY AND TECHNOLOGY UPDATE STRATEGY
The increasing pace of cybersecurity threats require more aggressive technology updates. VertiGIS is updating underlying libraries and technology stacks more frequently than in previous years to minimize security exposure and reduce vulnerability gaps.
This increased update frequency has resulted in more hotfix releases than normal. Over the previous release cycle, approximately seven hotfixes were issued across multiple products to address issues created by changes in external technologies and ecosystems.
While these updates occasionally expose existing customer-side issues, the overall objective is to maintain a secure and modern platform for all customers.
UPCOMING RELEASES – INLINE 2.9
An updated version of Inline is expected within weeks. The release primarily addresses performance regressions introduced by recent technology changes and includes improvements to the Route and Range tool, particularly around edge-case scenarios identified by customers.
UPCOMING RELEASES – MOBILE 5.42 (June 17)
The Local Data Manager will gain support for updating map areas directly from within the application. Once offline basemap updating is added in a future release, the Local Data Manager will be considered functionally complete.
The release will also introduce support for the Refresh Layer workflow activity, allowing layers to be refreshed without requiring users to restart the application.
Additional technology updates include Workflow 5.50 integration, Syncfusion Essential Studio 33.2.6, user interface improvements, and numerous bug fixes.
UPCOMING RELEASES – WEB 5.42 (June 17)
Studio Web 5.42 significantly expands import and export capabilities.
New import support includes Esri Layer Packages (LPKX) and File Geodatabases (FGDB). These capabilities require configuration of the new Geodata Service GP Task on your ArcGIS Enterprise Server. VertiGIS will provide scripts and documentation to simplify deployment. Initial limitations include lack of raster support and lack of support for annotation feature classes. Annotation layers can still be imported but currently appear as rectangle polygons until full support is added in a future release.
The release also introduces GPX export functionality. Selected features can be exported as tracks. Polygon features are automatically excluded since GPX does not support navigation against polygon geometry.
One of the most significant upcoming features is the new AI Command Assistant for Studio Web Designer.
The assistant helps administrators build, modify, troubleshoot, and understand command chains used throughout Studio Web. It is designed to reduce the complexity of command configuration while accelerating application development.
Key capabilities include:
* Explaining existing command chains and configurations.
* Recommending configuration changes.
* Identifying missing settings and troubleshooting issues.
* Generating or modifying command chains based on natural language requests.
* Applying suggested changes directly into the configuration.
To improve reliability, VertiGIS implemented session limits, daily and hourly usage limits, and encourages users to submit complete, well-formed questions to maximize accuracy.
The feature is optional and must be explicitly enabled through an AI master switch within App Designer.
WEB DEMONSTRATIONS
The DXF import functionality introduced in a previous release. Imported DXF content behaves like native Studio Web layers, supporting symbology changes, identify operations, and other standard mapping capabilities.
The File Geodatabase import workflow was demonstrated, showing how multiple layers can be imported simultaneously and immediately used within Studio Web.
Layer Package import functionality was also demonstrated, providing a streamlined workflow for bringing packaged GIS content into Studio Web applications.
GPX export was demonstrated using selected hydrants and waterline features, producing GPX track files suitable for navigation workflows.
Several demonstrations showcased practical AI-assisted configuration scenarios.
Examples included:
* Explaining why multiple layers could not be selected during import.
* Automatically enabling multi-layer import settings.
* Explaining complex command chains to administrators.
* Troubleshooting why symbology changes were not being applied.
* Adding new functionality such as Layer Comparison tools.
* Generating user-friendly messages and notifications.
The demonstrations highlighted how AI can reduce the time required to configure and troubleshoot advanced Studio Web applications.
Q&A
