viewer.post-message-await-reply operation

Does anyone know how to use the https://developers.vertigisstudio.com/docs/web/api-commands-operations#operation-viewer.post-message-await-reply

I already know how to use the viewer.post-message command, but I'd like to be able to query something in the parent frame and reply back to the calling workflow.
