Share Project saves some portal items but not all

We have an issue with the Share Project component when used in combination with the Add Layer from Portal component. When a layer has been added to a map which is then saved, the layer will appear on the layer list when loaded again. However, we find that they only display geometry if the added item is a Map Image Layer while an item consisting of a WMS will still be showed on the layer list but now display the geometry. 

Has anyone else experience with this or any ideas on what the issue might be?
