Independent Layer List

Did you get anywhere with this idea Nick? I'd like to have two layer lists. One is a primary and one is a secondary that only gets occasional use.

Hi Peter MacKenzie & Nick Rappa I would suggest checking out Layer Presets, this allows you to group into different sets of layers and do exactly what you are talking about here.

Thanks Gareth. I was able to achieve what I needed using a Layer Preset custom command after a map initialization. This means my layer list (slim) gets activated when my app first loads but then the default layer list in my web map (full) is available in the layer preset dropdown.
    This approached worked for me.

Glad that you found a solution, Peter MacKenzie ! that seems like a creative and concise approach.

I was very happy to have found the Layer Presets function. I have a lot of layers that make the layer list very confusing. (BTW: For greater clarity, it would be nice if the indentation and font could be changed to make groupings more obvious.)

With the layer presets, I can now group layers thematically. However, it still doesn't work the way I need it to. My users want to display different layers from different categories at the same time. However, if I click on a layer preset in which, for example, only environmental data is visible, everything else that the user had previously switched on is hidden again.  This makes the layer presets pointless for me again, because I then only have a “tidy” layer list for a short time, but as soon as the user clicks on a preset, he has to click on everything he needs in the confusing layer list again.

How can I create different thematic groupings of layers so that they are clearly arranged, e.g. as tabs or a button as with the layer presets? But in such a way that the existing display is not overwritten, but only more layers are available for selection?
