Rest Manager Add Service Error The remote server returned an error (401) Unauthorized

I'm diving into REST 'stuff'. I'm trying to add a service using the Rest manager and I am getting the following error:   The host 'http://<host>/ArcGIS/rest/services' does not appear to reference a valid ArcGIS Server instance. Underlying error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.   What could causing the (401)? Any ideas? Everything is running OK for my WebADF sites.   ~John

  Hi John,   You should check to ensure that IIS allows anonymous access to the "/ArcGIS/rest" virtual directory on the ArcGIS Server machine.   In IIS 5 (Windows XP): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310344   In IIS 6 (Windows 2003): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/035dcfd0-9a36-4788-b3b6-91dc6a9d9936.mspx

  hi John and Joel,   I am getting below error:   The host 'http://<hostname>/arcgis/rest/services' does not appear to reference a valid ArcGIS Server instance. Underlying error: Unauthorized access

   

  I did enable 'anonymous authentication' access on our AGS server.   Can you please help?   thanks,   Kyung Lee Napa County 707-253-6144
