Hi Martijn,   It is important to note that the configuration of a map service's layers in an Essentials REST site is merely a reflection of the layers and group layers as they are defined in the ArcGIS Server map service.  In other words, you cannot add arbitrary Layer definitions to a GroupLayer's SubLayers element; you can only add those layers that are defined as the group layer's sublayers in the map document (i.e. MXD).  If you wish to move layers into a group layer, you must do it in the map document.   Also, it is not possible to break up group layers by omitting any of its sublayers.  When you include a group layer in your site configuration, it and all its sublayers come along for the ride.  However, configuring a sublayer does have a purpose: it allows you to set up template reports, data links, a display name, etc. for that layer.   Joel Andrews Software Developer Latitude Geographics Group Ltd.

Hi Joel,   Thank for answering. I just figured out what was wrong. Our sublayers have numbers in the name like   250000 and our site admin wanted to change the displayname to 250.000. But instead of adding a displayname he changed the name attribute.   Greets, Martijn
