    Just do a search for "global search default text" and the first one that comes up looks like it has the answer..

    I've updated the link in Jimmy's post so it points to the correct thread again. Note that the linked thread deals specifically with the Silverlight viewer. If you're wanting to change the text in the search box for the HTML5 viewer, you can do so by editing the Mapping.en-US.json.js file found in Resources\Locales and changing the value of the string associated with this key: "language-search-placeholder".

    As with any editing you do in the json files, I strongly recommend validating the json file (e.g., with a tool like http://jsonlint.com/) after your edits to ensure that you haven't accidentally removed a comma, curly brace, etc.
