Hiding Sites
My sites are going public, and I want to offer REST services to visitors to our sites. But our URL,
http://maps.orem.org/Geocortex/Essentials/REST/sites
includes the Charlotte sites. I kinda don't want to delete the Charlotte sites since they're good examples, but I also don't want them in our public sites list. Can I hide the sites, but still manage them? It can help when I'm trying to figure out unfamiliar functions.

Roger,
Many options here:
I'd recommend installing an instance of Essentials and using that to "play" with the product. Making this instance on a different web server, on a port that is not exposed, would make it completely unavailable to your users.
Alternatively, you can remove the links to the site from the Silverlight Viewer's Viewer.Settings.XML file. The demo site would still exist, but they'll be unavailable from the viewer link.
Finally to remove them from the Sites completely without doing anything else, simply move the directories in the Sites folder to someplace else. When you want to look at them, put them back there and they'll show up only during the time you want. Hopefully one of these options makes sense and the one you choose meets your needs.

Cool suggestions! I decided to try cutting and pasting the Charlotte folders to the Administrator's My Documents folder and that did the trick! The folders are there in case I want to "restore" them and play with their features. My guess is that, in order to keep them current, I should always copy the folders back when I upgrade Essentials or the Silverlight Viewer. Then I would cut and paste them back to My Documents.

Roj,
all good suggestions from Shaw - but another way I've been doing demo stuff is to copy the viewers virtual directory (in my case /ge/) to say /ge_demo/, and then reference it's own viewer.settings file in there... which ultimately point back to the same instance of GE and the sites. It's just that I get at them from a different URL, and thus presents a different launch list of sites..
horses for courses they say ;)

Roger, the sample sites are always available in the folder Sample Sites. This folder is located at the same level as Sites. Upgrading will have this directory updated, often with new functionality configured. Best use these for upgrades and just forget about those "samples" you've had, as they won't contain newly configured items--just updated to work in the current version.
Glad I could help,
