What version of Geocortex Essentials is required to support the new HTML5 1.2 viewer? If you are running Geocortex Essentials 3.11 instead of the latest 3.12, what functionality is not available in the viewer?

The Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 1.2 works with Geocortex Essentials 3.4 and later.

The HTML5 Viewer Administrator and Developer Guide includes all the information that's in the Installation Guide, except for that error. If you are installing version 1.2 of the viewer, I recommend that you follow the instructions in the Administrator and Developer Guide.

Which browsers are supported for the HTML5Viewer of Essentials. I tried it in Internet Explorer 7 and it worked. Is this more luck than wisdom, or is IE7 really supported?

    Hi Luuk,

HTML5 was designed to degrade gracefully, so that if a browser didn't support a feature, it would attempt to display it in some form (but without the HTML5 functionality.)

This design implementation means that some older browsers will at least display something when rendering our HTML5 Viewer. IE7 is one of those browsers with very limited HTML 5 support (a score of 27 out of 500) see - http://html5test.com/compare/browser/ie07.html

While you can see a map with the Viewer in IE7, there are items that just will not work (and cannot be made to work), such as the geolocate feature.

    regards,

    Edmond

I thought I would add a point of clarification regarding browser support for the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 (GVH).

GVH contains three different views, each with their own stylesheet (CSS) for different form factors: desktop (large), tablet (medium) and handheld (small).

We offer support on different browsers depending on the view being used. Offering support for a browser means that we perform testing on that browser with the release and we intend to ensure compatibility of all features (unless otherwise stated).

Here is a matrix describing the current browser support offered by GVH:

    Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10 Safari - iOS 4.2+ Firefox 3.6, 4+

    Android browser 2.2+

Chrome 4+ Chrome for Android (Android 4)

    Hi Drew,

When you test the browsers, do you also test for compatibility with secure map services (Active Directory)?  Our organization and I'm sure several other Geocortex customers use secure map services with their sites and would like a seemless mobile integration.

We are having problems with the ability to geolocate in a HTML 5 using a mobile device for some Android platforms.  Preliminary tests show that Android operating system 4.4, 4.3 work successfully but 4.1.2 does not. Our browser that we've been testing on is Chrome.  We have confirmed that the ability to allow your location does work from the browser....maps.google.com works successfully.

It appears based on Drew's earlier post that Android browsers 2.2 and above should be supported.

For what it's worth, we are using Essentials version 3.15.1 and HTML5 version 1.3.1.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
