Internet vs Intranet Sites
I'm somewhat of a newbie to Geocortex, but the idea of internet vs intranet sites is not clear in the documentation. We have a single server which is serving the Geocortex websites. Some sites will be internet, some will be intranet. Now, I understand how to set up Geocortex for either one or the other method, but it appears there is no method to set it up to easily create both internet and intranet sites.
I initially installed using the server name in the url while evaluating, and then we figured out we could not do external sites. So, I switched the installation around so that the default url for sites was the gis.xxx.com and not the server name. Now all of the sites that get created have the external URL by default. I've tried going into the site.xml and the viewer.xml and editing the uri values to use the server name instead, but this change does not show up when I go back and edit the site or the viewer.
I'm frankly stumped, and I know there has to be a way to do this.
Thanks!

Hi Tami,
What you are talking about is possible, but it would help to know how you are making your site accessible to the Internet. Are you using a reverse proxy?

Tami,
You need to install a separate named instance of Geocortex Essentials on the same server and configure it for external access, thus having one instance serving internal sites and another serving external sites. You can install multiple instances of a particular version of Essentials on one server -- more info on section 5.2.1 Named Instances of Geocortex Essentials Installation Guide . You should end up with two Geocortex instances like so:
http://servername/geocortex/essentials/internal /rest/sites
http://servername/geocortex/essentials/external /rest/sites
You would then, typically, use a reverse proxy to make the external sites accessible to the Internet. If you are using a reverse proxy, you need to configure the external URL (gis.xxx.com) in Essentials. See section 35 Running Behind a Reverse Proxy of Geocortex Essentials Administrator Guide .
Hope this helps,
