Custom point drawing symbols
Hi there,
I would like to be able to add custom point symbols to the Drawing Tools to support emergency management.
Our County Emergency Operations (in Ontario, Canada) are in the process of adopting Emergency Management Ontario's Incident Management System (IMS). EMO's IMS uses very simple, standardized, recognizable map symbols (pg 97) and we would like to enable those staff using GeoCortex in the Operations Centre to add these standardized symbols to the map using the drawing tools.
Ontario's IMS is based upon FEMA's National Incident Management System (NIMS) and utilizes the same symbol set, as I believe other Canadian provinces do, too. This appears to be a growing emergency management standard.
Ideally, the simple circle and square symbols would be available in the Drawing Tools point symbol set for users to add. A wrinkle is that at least three of the symbols (staging areas, camps, & helispots) may occur multiple times in an incident and require sequential numbering (e.g., S = single staging area; S1, S2, S3 = three separate staging areas).
I'd love to see this added in a user-friendly way, perhaps: (1) store each possible symbol already made & labelled; (2) store the five basic symbols (e.g., annotated square, annotated outlined circle, annotated solid black circle, diagonally split square with no fill, & diagonally split square half-filled) with the ability to add a label as part of the point symbol as it is placed; or (3) other ideas?
Thanks for considering this enhancement request.
Tammy
