Report Designer legend categories

 

Hello community,

I have a question related to the Report Designer.

 

Our Flex Viewer sends print requests, which generated printouts with a legend that did not contain any group layers.

We circumvented the problem by adding a layer to each map service in ArcGIS, that has a suffix of "_legend". In that way we could add a piece of script in the report designer, to filter out these layers and add them as a map service title in the legend.

 

Our problem is that we want this for group layers and nested group layers too. We could add suffixes as "_legend1", "_legend2", "_legend3", ... to differentiate between hierarchy of the group layers.

 

Due to the amount of mapservices and nested group layers, this would be a tedious process that is also not easily scalable/managable.

So my question to you all is: Is there a simpler way to add group layer names to the legend in Report Designer. If so, how?
