Instant Search Choose which layers to include
Is there a way to choose the layers in a map service to include in the instant search index. By defaul t all layers are beind indexed.
This is not good for a map service with 200+ layers when you only need to search on 20 layers.

We were told there was not. The solution was to index a feature layer, however I can't seem to get this to work either.

I think you would need to break out those layers you want to be searchable into a new service... but except for the size and time it takes to create the index, what is the issue? You control what layers are getting searched in Manager...

Hi Mike,
Biggest issue is how long it takes to create. Also how often the index is rebuilt. I need the indexes built every night as the data changes daily.

This is what would make instant search better for me:
•Ability to schedule when the index is built, and have it built fast.
•Choose which layers in a map service to include in instant search index.
•Be able to search on related data, either datlink search tables or relationships in map service0 -
Hello Mark,
There actually is a way, albeit clumsy, to specify specific layers when building an Instant Search index. In the Add Map Service dialog of your Site, expand your large Map Server and select an individual layer you want to index. Choose to "Add as Feature Layer" and, after it is included in your Site, remove it from the Layer List (this assumes you are including the parent Map Server in your Site already) to avoid the duplicate node. On the Instant Search tab for that layer, simply press the play button to start scanning and configure it for search as you would a Map Server once scanning is complete.
Erik, were you able to figure it out?
Chris
