Filtering a Feature Layer and Legend Updates

Is there way to make the legend only show categories for feature that meet the criteria set in the filtering tab for a feature layer?  Basically, I have critieria in my filter that hides some of the features in my layer.  I'd like the legend to reflect the fact those features aren't being displayed and there not appear.  In the graphic below the top two items are removed via the filter, but they still appear in the legend.  Is there a way to change this behavior?

  Peter, did you have any success with this? I am searching for a solution today now that I've set a filter on a layer. The features are nicely hidden on the map, but the legend still shows all symbols from the layer regardless of whether they are filtered out.
