Now Available: Geocortex Essentials 4.2, Viewer for HTML5 2.3 & Viewer for Silverlight 2.3
Latest Geocortex release includes layer list improvements, streamlined access to ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS, initial iOS 8 compatibility
Hi everyone,
We've released Geocortex Essentials 4.2, alongside the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 2.3 and Geocortex Viewer for Silverlight 2.3.
Geocortex Essentials now provides streamlined access to organizational content in Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online. Administrators can search for (and reference) private organizational content with a single sign-on experience, and Geocortex Essentials Manager distinguishes between private and public organizational content to aid in the development of applications for specific audiences.
Based on your input, we’ve made significant layer list improvements to both our HTML5 and Silverlight viewers. Users can now organize layers of all different types into custom folders, rearrange the order of layers, and perform batch edits to configure all layers within a group layer (or folder) simultaneously.
Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 2.3 provides initial iOS 8 support, and there is important information you need to read that appears later in this announcement if you’re serving iOS-based users.
Here are highlights of this major release (n ote there is interdependence between Geocortex Essentials and our HTML5 and Silverlight viewers; implementing some newly introduced viewer features will require the latest version of Geocortex Essentials) :

Deploying to iOS Users? Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 2.3 provides initial iOS 8 compatibility . Customers who have built applications with the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 and serve end-users currently updating to Apple’s iOS 8 are encouraged to download Essentials 4.2 and the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 2.3 to avoid most disruptions to pre-existing functionality. This aspect of the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 update is backwards compatible and does not require an upgrade to Geocortex Essentials 4.2.
* * Browser changes that shipped as part of iOS 8 have impacted aspects of Esri’s JavaScript API on which our markup and editing tools are based. Esri is aware of the markup and editing issues and we expect that they may address these in the near future. Rest assured that we will include any changes to Esri’s JavaScript API within an updated version of our Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if your organization is involved in the iOS 8 upgrade process for end-users, and is currently deploying markup or editing capabilities, we recommend holding off on iOS 8 updates until resolved. We will keep you up-to-date regarding iOS 8 compatibility developments via updates in the (http://support.geocortex.com/) Geocortex Support Center forums.

Thanks alot for all the hard work that went into this realease and for making the the upgrade process such a smooth one.
We've come a long way this year. Except for a "little snag" it took us less than an hr to upgrade everything
sans the "little snag."Thanks to support for helping is out with that.
Looking forward to more good things!

I can't figure out which feaure I'm more excited about the layer list? The charting in the HTML 5 viewer or the new query tools so I can
migrate my SL viewers to HtML5. Its a magical place!0 -
I'm a little discouraged because I'm having some issues. I seem to have a small problem every time I upgrade our instances, but to be fair... We are a pretty complicated deployment.
By the response of support lately, I would assume I'm not the only one having issues.
We too are very excited about the recent release, but we can't use it until we can figure out what's wrong :-\

What errors are you getting pehaps it related to "our little snag"
We have these little things crop up and have had to document them over the last few releases.

The sign-in URL for Manager and for authenticating our sites is referring to the server name and not the domain name.
I don't see any place to edit this, as it was typically handled in the web.config, but the EssentialsURL is set correctly in our web.config file. I don't see where to set it anywhere else?

Hey Erik,
Try going into the Post Installation Configuration, and Configure Geocortex Identity Server. Under default website you can click on hosts and add your domain name in there.
Good luck,
Jody0 -
Sounds like what happened to us
Click on the Essentials Post Installation Wizard
and check for Default Web Site Host pathyou can edit this... Let me know if that work for you or not
might be another place to chase down.

Thanks Jody and Cat,
I think we are all on the same page which is good! The problem is that we are using the manual installation of Identity Server, because we have multiple instances that use their own respective Identity Server instance. The batch file used for running the installer does not include any place for inserting host information.
https://support.geocortex.com/install-multiple-identity-servers
If I need to do this manually, I don't know where this information is placed so that I can modify it. I can't even get to the Manager login page, because it redirects back to the server name. I didn't think Manager used Identity Server.
This is the URL that it redirects to: https://<server machine name>/Geocortex/Essentials/<instance name>/RestManager/security/Callback/windows/W-0v6ZTQiUKCjlXAXr3tGQAAtJrEgLpILk-chj30SmJxsQAAmqhbgL4Mjp-BW2hwegQBr8Zk_OZV-5cP/
There doesn't even seem to be a 'security' folder in the RestManager virtual directory, which is also confusing.

Can you manually run the post installer for the instance(s)?
if so you should be able to put the fully qualified URL in there.Do you have multiple instances running on the same machine?

I'm not sure if it will help, but the Security.xml file in the REST\sites root folder has references for server names, including Identity servers. Might be worth a sqizz?
cheers
GF

We have been experiencing the same issues since upgrading to 4.2 I can no longer login to the manger from my desktop. However if I remote into the server I can? The fully qualified name of the server has been set. even tried installing a fresh instance of Geocortex and the result is the same.
