Parcel Labels in HTML5
I have a map service that includes a parcel layer with parcel number labels turned on.
In Essentials Manager, I have the Show Labels checkbox unchecked so that by default the labels do not draw. This method works fine for my Silverlight viewer but in my HTML5 viewer, the labels draw by default and I don't see any way to turn them off. Is there a way to toggle labels on/off in HTML5 similar to how you can do this in Silverlight or is this a shortcoming with the HTML5 viewer?
I am using Eseentials 4.1.3, Silverlight 2.2.1, and HTML5 2.2.1
Thanks for any suggestions.

I wasn't aware that I could turn lables on/off via GC.. How? And does this allow the user to turn them on?
Have you tried turning the labels off in the map service? If you want them off by default, why have them turned on? Or is this needed to turn them on later by the user? I'd like to know more about this myself!

Not sure if you turn them off in GC whether user can turn them on, but if you have labels turned on in the service, the user can click on a layer and turn them off... 0 -
As far as I understand it, you need to have the labels turned on in you map service. Otherwise GC will not know what attribute to use as a label for your layer.
The Show Labels checkbox is located by editing your map layer / Details tab / 4th entry in the Display section. Checking this box will determine whether or not the labels draw by default. In the Silverlight application, the user can turn labels for this layer on/off by left clicking on the layer in the Map Layers list. In the ensuing popup window, there is a Show Labels checkbox that you can check/uncheck.
Viewing the application in HTML5 doesn't seem to give me that functionality.

Anyone figure out how to have labels off by default in the HTML5 viewer?
We are also trying to do this, so we don't need to have a service with labels and a duplicate service without.
Maybe LG at the very least should change the "Show labels:" detail to "Show Labels in Silverlight Viewer:"?

I'm having the same problem.
Looks like attribution isn't functional in the HTML5 viewer?

I publish the map service with 2 layers, the first are the parcel polygons, second is parcel polygons with no fill/outline, just labels. Makes it easy to toggle a seperate lable layer on/off

We've been taking the route Bill mentioned since day 1 with GE, and it kinda sucks. LG, please add this functionality to GVHTML :)

Hi Everyone,
Starting with version 2.4, the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 now supports the "Show Labels" setting configured in Manager.

I am on version 2.4.1 and do not see any "Show Labels" checkbox under "Details" in Manager. Am I missing something?

Andrew,
The "Show Labels" option will only be visible in Manager if the layer you are editing has labels, and belongs to a dynamic layers-enabled map service. If the service is tiled (cached), then the option to change display of labels won't be available. See the section "Verify that a Layer has Labels" on page 206 of the Geocortex Essentials Administrator Guide for more information.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks!

Bill, that's what I do too...having a seperate labels layer.

I hate having to do this. I've been using the Feature Label option in the map layer properties. It works.

We are having this problem, too, but now with 2.5, we are also having a slightly different issue.
Like others - main Site has parcels with labels NOT visible by default, but they are enabled through dynamic layers so the user can turn them on/off as needed. It is also scale dependent - they will not appear out beyond 1:2400.
Works perfectly in Silverlight Viewer.
HTML Viewer - 2.3.3 - it would always display the labels once zoomed in closer than 1:2400 scale even though we have it NOT visible by default. Would show up in printouts. No ability to toggle labels on/off in HTML Viewer (which I understood would come later).
HTML Viewer 2.5 (just upgraded test server) - Well, now the labels don't appear at all which at least honors the fact that I have them NOT Visible by default in Manager. But now there seems to still be no way to toggle them on (if there is - please tell me how!). THEN, when I create a printable map - the labels appear on the .pdf when they are nowhere on the screen. I will be submitting this to support!
PLEASE - make the ability to toggle labels on/off one of the highest priorities of next HTML release! It is one of those reasons that our users will not switch from Silverlight Viewer!
