Instant Search hints field names
We have Instant search working very well on several of our sites. One remaining issue that is not quite a deal-breaker but greatly limits it's functionality, is that I cannot find a way to change the fieldname display in the search hints. We have many layers that use field names like 'Name' or 'Permit Number' for example. Without being able to over-ride these field names with something more descriptive, the hints are confusing.
I have tried place I can find in Essentials Manager to change a field name display/label value, and have tried creating aliases in the mxd, then republishing the service and rebuilding the index. None of that seems to work, Instant Search hints always show the field name as specified in the source data. Changing those is not an option, since they are part of huge enterprise database.
Anyone else have this problem (or a solution, even better)?

I asked tech support the same question and was told it'll be included in a "later release". We are anxiously waiting for this feature too! It's not a deal breaker for us either but certainly doesn't look very professional in my opinion. We're still on 4.1. Not sure if it's included in 4.2 but we tend NOT to upgrade to the latest version right away to avoid the bugs (as this forum shows are in abundance with the release of 4.2!).

Hi,
Just a thought but instead of hitting the Table/Feature Class could you use a view which would allow you to rename the fields?
Cheers, Brett

We are still struggling with this tool since long time ago. It is not working at all with me.
There should be a way to select which field you need to apply the “instant search” for

Looks like GE 4.2.1 has eliminated the field names all together in the search hints. Then in the results window you can select whichever result you need. The key is configuring your map tips (feature label and feature description in the layer editing page) - this is what shows up in the results. If you set this up right, the results in the left-hand panel are easy to decipher. If you don't, you get a bunch of object id's, which is a bummer.

That said - we are finally having very good results with instant search, it's pretty much doing what we hoped for. You do have to invest in setting it up and labelling things well though.

Thanks Allen,
I’m still not able to configure the “instant search”. It never works with me.
Why activating the “instant search” should be an issue?
