Instant Search - not generating index

I started an Instant Search indexing process several hours ago and it's still at 0%.  The map service being indexed has only 2 layers and a couple hundred features (points and polygons).  What can I check to make sure it's working (or not)?  I also tried yesterday and stopped and restarted the indexing process with no success. I'm using GE v4.1
