unable to toggle visibility of esri world imagery

Hi,

I am using esri world imagery as an image backdrop base layer in my GE html5 service.  The set layer visibility does not allow me to turn off the service visibility.  I may be using the wrong command.  is there a way to toggle visibility off and on for this type of theme.
