Buffer Features

Has anyone put together a workflow to allow users to buffer features the same way you can in silverlight?  For example being able to buffer on any given geometry, specifying your own distance then specifying which layers to return on the buffer.

  I'm working on this -

  I can buffer a specific layer, allowing a user definied distance, but results are returned for only 1 layer, which is explicitly stated in the wrokflow. I am still trying to figure out how to make it return all active layers, or user specified layers, in the results.
