Cannot edit layer - An item with the same key has already been added.

I see there's been numerous postings on this  issue but no posted solution.  I loaded a site the other day, went to edit a layer and got the following message:

An error occurred while processing your request.

An item with the same key has already been added.

And I cannot edit the layer. Checked site and config file but can find no duplicate keys/ Ids....  Anyone else been able to solve this problem or offer advice?

  Did you ever resolve this issue?  We are having a similiar issue.  Ours is stating,

   

  The map service with ID '1' contains the following duplicate layer IDs: 6

   

  Looking in the Site.xml file i don't see any duplications and I don't want to remove and add back since that would wipe out the layer configurations....
