Try following this to increase the heap size on the SOC machine.

I was able to index a smaller secured service, but a secured service with many layers was giving me errors. I also had some heap size errors in the instant search logs so I increased my heap size and it seems to have solved the problem. I haven't had time to verify the actual search yet.

Thanks for the idea Jason but not sure that's the problem for me. I have Server 10.3 and it looks like this bug was solved since 10.1. I don't have the option to adjust the heap size as it shows in the article you sent. Also, this is a pretty small service itself with only 1 feature class. I only have 2 secured services and it happens on both of them.

    Hi David,

I don't think the heap size change made any difference for me. I am having intermittent success at indexing the secured map services. It will start scanning and then part way through show the same error you have but will keep scanning and eventually clear out the error messages. It seems to get through a number of features and then hangs. If I then try to restart the scanning I get the same error again but no success in actually scanning anything. It seems to be very random and unstable from what I have seen. I try to scan a secured service and it works fine and completes and I move to the next service in the same secured folder with the same credentials and I get socket errors and token errors out of the blue. Hopefully Latitude will find something as there seems to be a number of posts regarding instant search issues with 4.3

I had the same problem.  The post below solved my problem.

In Geocortex Manager under the Connection Settings for the secured map service, the Token URL was blank. Once I set that to https://<serverURL>/arcgis/tokens/ it woked fine.
