Mailing labels code with sub report

The Enhanced Mailing Label Report listing in the Code Gallery has some simple code for sorting mailing labels. Since I'm using a parcels layer joined with an assessor table, I needed to employ a sub report for producing mailing labels. Does this sorting code work with sub reports? I tried adding this code in the Script section of my sub report and recieved the following error when trying to produce mailing labels:

 

"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.DataRow[]' to type 'System.Data.DataSet'."
