IIS log files filling up server
A client emailed me the other day to see why the hard disk was constantly/slowly filling up which would cause Essentials to crash. After looking into the source we found over 20Gb of IIS logs in 'C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1' dating back to 2011. If space is tight on your server, I suggest to monitor this location.
Happy uptime,

Thanks for that, Kevin. Is it safe to just delete the folder and/or files to make space? 0 -
Rebecca or Kevin - Did either of you find that you could just delete the folder, or just older files? Thanks. 0 -
You can safely delete the files.
You don't really need them unless you are troubleshooting or monitoring something.0 -
We use a script to automatically delete IIS log files older than 30 days. We originally kept 90 days worth of logs, but we found any occasional troubleshooting we ever did was usually for issues within the last couple of weeks.
Script source:

I've noticed a lot of log files in various directories (for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Essentials\Default\REST Elements\REST\App_Data\Logs). Can those log files also be deleted? Are there any log files that we should not delete? I'd love to clean them all out (some are several years old), but don't want to delete anything that I shouldn't.
Thanks,

Hi Stephanie,
There is a KB that describes the logs here - https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCkba?sub-nav=kba&main-nav=essentials&#!/feedtype=SINGLE_ARTICLE_DETAIL&criteria=BESTANSWERS&id=kA3600000004NliCAE
All log files could be erased, they will be recreated. They are typically only required if we are looking into an issue.

Wayne,
Thank you for confirming. Looks like I have quite a bit of cleanup to do one of these days!
Thanks,
