Hi John,
From what I can tell, GeoPDFs are a proprietary format from TerraGo Software, and Essentials cannot print in that format. That said, you can print to a regular PDF using print templates. Check out page 289 in the Essentials Administrator and Developer guide for instructions on printing to PDFs.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,

Hi again John,
I misspoke a little on this, let me clarify. GeoPDFs are a trademark of TerraGo, but Geospatial PDFs (that is PDFs with georefrencing metadata) are part of a standard. We actually have an improvement open in our system to add support for Geospatial PDFs. I will add you as a stakeholder to that issue. The tracking number is GE-2653.
Cheers!

Hi Daniel.
I've got a client asking for exactly this! Can you please add me to the stakeholder list as well please? Is there any idea on when it might be likely to surface?
Thanks!0 -
Hi Beth-Anne,
Sorry, we don't have a timeline yet, I would suggest asking your account manager about this one, as they may be able to get it moved up the backlog sooner :)
In the meantime, I will add you as a stakeholder, per your request.
Thanks!

Please add the (US) National Park Service as a stakeholder as well.
GeoPDFs are widely used during wildland firefighting to distribute up-to-date maps to firefighters, who can easily access them on any mobile device using the Avenza PDF app. In other words, we use this technology to deploy information quickly to non-technical users using (often) personal equipment in an offline setting.
If lack of funding is keeping this improvement from being a higher priority, I suspect funding might be available through the National Interagency Fire Center. I can provide contact information.0 -
Hi Danny, It's great to hear that you are working out a Georeferenced PDF export capability. Clearly this is something that folks are clammoring for. Please add the USDOI Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as an interested stakeholder as well.
Cheers,

Thanks Kim and John. Kim, I added your post as a comment on the new feature request.
Cheers!

Hi Daniel,
Happy to know that you are already working on this.Anytime lines on this particular release as our users are keen to have this..
Pls Suggest.thank you0 -
Any news on this? I should probably check the road-ahead webinar, but did a search and it lead me here. I'm looking for this functionality for our foresters that use Avenza for taking maps into the field. Although Avenza will take a geo-tiff, which is possible with Essentials, it requires the pro-version (at a cost). A geo-pdf does not require a subscription.
Thanks.0 -
Hi Erik,
I just checked and GE-2653 is still an open improvement request. At this point, I think you can safely assume that it will not be added to the HTML5 viewer and if implemented, it will be part of the new Printing and Reporting series 5 product.

Hi Guys,
Is there any further progress been made on this?
We use Avenza maps and would be keen on this functionality.
Many thanks,
Tim0 -
Hi Tim! How are you going? This is basically essential functionality required for take up of Geocortex by our users. Same as all the others. They use Avenza maps. Any update? Lara. 0 -
Hi Lara, good to hear from you, yes keeping well thanks under the circumstances.
I did come up with a solution that is a little clumsy but it works for us.
I used a combination of a workflow and geoprocessing service.
The workflow creates a map export (geotiff) then it passes this to a geoprocessing service (a python script published as a GP service). It puts the geotiff in an .mxd then does an export to pdf.
The result is a georeferenced pdf that seems to work well in Avenza.
I am happy to share the workflow & python script if anyone is interested?
Take care,
Tim0 -
Hi Tim, yes would be good to have a look and see how it works. It's disappointing this hasn't been implemented after all this time when it is so easy in Pro or ArcMap. Do you know whether it is on the agenda for Printing 5 series? Lara 0 -
Hi Lara, I have attached the files I used to get it going in a .zip archive. Basically... 1) GeoRefTiff.mxd - the .mxd template is how the exported map will look. 2) GeoTiff.tbx - the toolbox to add in arcmap (or just make your own and add the python script to it) 3) GeoTiffToPDF.py - the ArcPy script to publish as a geoprocessing service. 4) PrintGeoRefMap.xaml - the workflow that pulls it all together. I hope it works for you... Thanks, Tim 0 -
