Pick-up default layer attributes for identify instead of starting from scratch

I was working with a user yesterday to configure an application and a question came up regarding if she had to go to each layer and configure the attributes for identification. We had the same service consumed in ArcGIS Online and noticed that ArcGIS Online has the ability to display layer attributes without having to configure anything. I started thinking about the amount of time we spend doing this in our applications and realize that it would be helpful to have the default list of layer attributes available similar to ArcGIS Online. We like the extensive config you can do with attributes for each layer but would be helpful to have them available without having to always specify and confiure. Quite a number of the layers we configure is setup the way we want in the map service already. We want to use them by default to search, get results, identify... without the granular config.
