test for selection in active collection html5

How can I test if there are no selections in the active collection in html5 2.6.1? The first part of a workflow tests if there are active selections, then proceeds with the workflow. I am using Get Selected Features, then if selectedFeatures.Count.ToString = "0" I'd like an error message to pop up. In Silverlight 2.5 it will work, but in html5 I get the "Object not set to an instance..." error. In other words, I'd like to have my own error message pop up and alert the user to select a feature.

  I changed the workflow - selectedFeatures is Nothing. Easy to overthink these things sometimes. Thanks, Heidi
