Buffering with Drawing Tools

Can you create buffers with the drawing tools such as buffer a polyline and polygon. If so do I have to do it with a workflow or can the tools be modifiec to include buffering.

  I don't know about using the built in buffering tools, but you can definitely do this with a workflow. Here's a sample:
