Layer Catalog - what am I doing wrong?
So, I've read the documentation over and over and can't figure out what I'm not doing right. I'm trying to add a Layer Catalog site to a regular site and don't seem to be getting the expected results. I create the empty Layer Catalog site then add a service to it. I've tried dynamic and tiled services. I then add it to my working site just as the documentation explains. At this point am I supposed to see the Layer Catalog in the Layer List or Services list. I'm not exactly sure how to Add/Remove layers as the documentation suggests since I don't see the service to edit. I created a button in the viewer with the ShoeLayerCatalog command and tested that but when I select the layer it deosn't draw on the map. Have even opened the desktop json file to see if I needed to tweek the LayerCatalog module. Yes, I'm completely lost here. I've seen that a few of you have had success so I'm sure I'm just missing something. Thanks!

Hi Jeff -
We've had success with this, and there are a few pointers I can offer that hopefully will help.
1 - if you have created your layer catalog site and made a reference to it in the main site, all you should need to do it edit the viewer tool bar, and find the layer catalog tool, then add it to your toolbar. It is not in the toolbar by default.
Then you should simply be able to click the layer catalog button on the tool bar, and it will take you to a window that has whatever layers are configured in your layer catalog site.
If this doesn't work, I recommend getting the new Essentials release - 4.6.1 - and trying the same once that is installed.
It can get a bit trickier if you have security on any of your services, but otherwise this should work for you.

Quick note: 4.6.1 does not contain any functional changes to Essentials beyond the changes to the installer, so 4.6.0 and 4.6.1 will behave the same way with respect to layer catalogs. 0 -
I'm having issues too... I was able to create a catalog site and made a reference to it in another site. I click the layer catalog button and check a few layers to add, but nothing gets added. I even ensured I had a folder within my TOC that accepted user added layers. This also did not work correctly. Only thing I can think of is something with themes. We have several themes in our site. I would assume that if a folder that is accepting user added layers is included in the theme, the added layers would be included as well. 0 -
I am seeing the same thing here. Check a layer to include in the layer list and nothing gets drawn. We just get a alert stating the layer list is being updated. 0 -
Same here.
I am using Chrome. Using dev tools I see that the added layers give a 'failed to get token' error. Going to ArcGIS Server logs is see that access to that layer is via Anonymous.
My GE and Server are https using Windows Integrated Authentication.0 -
Hi Russell, Jeff and others,
There is a known issue in version 2.7.0 of the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5 where map services secured
with token security could not be loaded from the layer catalog. Trying to do so would result in an "Updating Layer List"
alert (the kind described by Chris). The layer would then fail to appear on the map. There would also be a Token error simmilar
to what Russell described:
This issue has been resolved in the upcoming 2.7.1 maintenance release of the viewer.
If you are not using token-secured services and are still experiencing this problem, please let us know.

HI Elio,
We're seeing the behavior, but I'm not seeing any reference to token errors when I run Fiddler. .
Our services are added Web Tier (configured credentials)0 -
Hi Scott,
There is another known bug in 2.7.0 where permissions set in the catalog site are not properly applied once the viewer is loaded. For an example, if you deny anonymous access to specific layers in the catalog site, no users will be able to load this layer regardless of whether they are signed in or not. Do you have any permissions configured in your catalog site?
This is another issue that is fixed in the 2.7.1 maintenance release.
I hope this helps you solve your problem!

Hi Elio,
I was able to get to tool to work by opening up the catalog to anonymous users. Applying any level of security within the service caused problems. We're still in the testing environment, so hopefully 2.7.1 will be released before too much longer as this is the one of the last obsticles to overcome before going to production.

Hi Elio,
Can you save a Project with a layer from out of box Layer Catalog that will show the same view while opening the saved Project?
Thanks!0 -
Hi Dibya,
This should be possible in the 2.7.1 release of the Geocortex Viewer for HTML5. For example, If I add a layer from the layer catalog, identify some features from the layer, then save a project with the results view open, the layer from the layer catalog and the results panel (with the identified features) will be restored when the project is opened. This should also work for other views, like the feature detail view for a layer from added from the layer catalog, or the layer list.
If you would like some more information regarding a specific view, or regarding the functionality of this feature in the 2.7.0 release of GVH please let me know. There are several known issues with layer catalog in the 2.7.0 release.

We ran into this issue as well. Some layers would draw while others would not even though I, as a user, had access to all of the layers in the Catalog. What we did was we applied explicit grants to each layer that was not drawing and that resolved the issue. I believe it was filed as a bug, but this could be your workaround for the time being. 0 -
I've loaded the HTML5 2.7.2 Viewer today while upgrading to GE 4.6.3. I'm able to add a webservice through Catalog, to my map, but it won't save in the project I create with my login. Is there a workflow documented for this somewhere? Also didn't find the layer catalog in available tools, using it through I want to window. 0 -
Hi Phil,
The Layer Catalog tool should be found under the "Tasks" tab in the list of available tools. Do you not see it here, even after creating a new viewer?
As for layers from the catalog not saving in a project, are there any relevant errors present in the browser console when saving or restoring a project?
