There is no "Geocortex Essentals" or "Geocortex Applications" sidebar items. How do I get those to show up?

    Hey Royce,

     

    Please have a look at section 5.4 in the Administrator and Developer guide, or section 4.4 in the Installation guide.  In order to Monitor Essentials with Analytics, you will need to install the Agent on the Essentials server, and cluster the two servers.  

     

    Note that you need to be running at least Essentials 4.6 for this to work!

    Ah, ok.  For some reason I was going on the idea of "remote monitoring" vs "agent installation".  I'm understanding that I need to go the "agent install" route?

    Correct, for monitoring Essentials the Agent install is the only supported method.

    The saga isn't over yet.  When I try to install Analytics on the "agent server", the install dialogues never show me the "data folder" screen or the "join a cluster" screen.  It goes from the install folder screen to the license screen straight to the "install button".  Confused.

    My apologies, I forgot about that, and should have mentioned:  Because Core is already installed on the Essentials server, it won't prompt you for a data folder.  That was unfortounately missed in the documentation before it went to print, but it is resolved in the 1.2 verison of the documentation, which will be released along with 1.2 in the next week or so.  

     

    So to answer your question, your install folder is automatically detected, and you can proceed with the install.  

     

    Sorry for the confusion there, I forgot about that documentation oversight.

    I don't care much about the data folder one but it seems like I need to be able to join a cluster?

    Also, in the case that I forgot (and I'm not saying I did forget  ;) what I named the cluster in the hub install, how do I get that information?  I have the secret... but I forgot to write down the actual cluster name.

    Ok, I think I've goofed.  When Essentials was installed on server A, was a cluster named there?  And it's that cluster that I should have joined when I installed Analyics Hub?  (Not the agent install I'm trying to do now).

    Section 6.3 of the Administrator guide talks about using the cluster configuration utility once the agent is installed to join the Essentials server to the analytics cluster.

     

    If you hypothetically forgot your cluster name, you could find it on the Analytics hub server in the following config file:

     

    C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Core\Bin\Geocortex.Platform.Host.exe.config

     

    In the ClusterName key.  But I'm sure you won't need to look that up ;)

    Well, apparently when a hub is created, the cluster is defined at that point.  So I'm totally confused by the agent install didn't prompt me for a cluster to join.

    Hey Royce,

     

    No worries, it sounds like you're doing fine.  You want to join your Essentials server to the Analytics cluster using the cluster configuration utility (which is available after installing the agent on the Essentials server).

     

    When you install Essentials 4.6, another cluster is created, because Core needs a cluster to run.  So at this point, you should have 2 clusters on your network.  The idea here is to have the Essentials server join the Analytics server with the cluster configuration utility.  I can understand how the wording here could be a little confusing.  

     

    I hope this helps!  You're pretty close to having it set up, but if it's still giving you trouble, you can reach our to us, or to your reseller for assistance!

    Hi Daniel Briggs,

     

    I am going to install the Analytics next week (waiting for Analytics 1.2). 

    This thread seemed quite informative and I had similar questions in my mind as Royce.

     

    Though your answers have explained it, but for my satisfaction I would like to ask one two question.

     

    My GIS system configuration is that I have two ArcGIS Servers on seperate machines (One Dev and one Prod). Similarly I have two Geocortex Essentials (One Dev and one Prod), installed on two different machines, and both have different cluster names (assigned to their machine names), when core was installed. 00

     

    I will install Analystics on a seperate machine, and will have its cluster name set as the machine name as well.

     

    Now my question is when I install agent on both Essentials machines, will I have to run cluster config utility on both of machines so that Essentials can communicate with Analytics Hub? Also will this config utility change the cluster name for Essentials or it will just establish a connection with Analytics Hub and Essentials machines?

    Hi Muhammad,

     

    If I'm understanding your environment correctly, we are looking at 5 servers (1 prod Essentials, 1 prod ArcGIS , 1 dev Essentials, 1 dev ArcGIS, and 1 Analytics hub).  To answer your question, you would need to install the agent on both the Essentials nodes, and have them join the Analytics cluster using the cluster configuration utility.  This will change the cluster name on both Essentials nodes to the cluster name of the Analytics node.  

     

    It's worth noting though, that if there are cluster issues in your dev environment, you run the risk of affecting your production environment if all the nodes are clustered.  What many of our customers elect to do is install 2 instances of Analytics, one to monitor Production, and one to monitor development.

    I suppose that two instances of Analytics Hub server have to be installed on two seperate machines to have different cluster names of hubs ?

    That is correct, you can only have one instance of Analytics installed per server.
