We are planning to upgrade from Geocortex Essentials version 4.5.0 to version 4.6.1 and also to upgrade from Viewer HTML5 2.6 to 2.7.0. The backout plan is to uninstall Geocortex Essentials 4.6.1 and reins version 4.5.0 and the HTLM5 2.6 is it ok?

    Hello Michel,

For Essentials, that's a perfectly acceptable blackout plan, however you may want to install Essentials 4.6.2 instead.  It's effectively the same as 4.6.1, but it includes fixes for a few nasty installer bugs, that may make your life harder when doing an upgrade.

For your plan, you will want to incorporate the following:

    1) Back up your sites folder before the upgrade.  If you need to reinstall, you will want your sites viewer configuration preserved pre-upgrade.

    2) Back up your viewer folders in the IIS wwwroot folder before the upgrade.  If you need to reinstall, you will want to have a copy of your viewer application, so that any of your customization (like legacy short URLs) are preserved.

    3) Make note of any manual customization you made to any of your web.config files in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Latitude Geographics folder, so you can reapply them if you need to reinstall.

If you need to reinstall, just reinstall Essentials and the viewer (using the same instance names, and viewer names), and replace the files, and you should be good to go.

All that being said, Essentials runs on Geocortex Core, which will be upgraded from 2.4.1 to 3.0.3.  So if you do find yourself needing to roll back, you will also need to uninstall Core 3.0.3 and let the Essentials installer reinstall Core 2.4.1, which will cause you to lose your security store (IE permissions on your sites), and any saved projects that your users have generated.  In some cases, this is a non issue (maybe you don't use saved projects, and your sites are all open), but you should be aware of it just in case.

Another thing you can back up to make restoring easier is your C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Core\Data directory.  If you need to roll back you should be able to keep your security store and saved projects with this directory.  You will likely need some assistance from our support team though, as we will need to change the newly installed instance to reverence the old security store.

I hope this helps!  If you have any followup questions or want some assistance with this, you can reach out to our support team for help.

    Cheers!

    Hi Michel,

To expand on this question a little, I wrote this KBA (https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCkba?feedtype=SINGLE_ARTICLE_DETAIL&criteria=BESTANSWERS&id=kA360000000L14WCAS) which goes into more detail.  I hope it helps!

    Thanks,
