Its my understanding that Geodatabases must be published through ArcGIS Online.  We are in the same boat in that this just isnt an option.

To avoid any questions and confusion, what I did was to edit the Mapping.en_US.json.js file to remove any mention of geodatases as a supported file type in dialog box.

    Find  "language-upload-dialog-supported-files"

    edit to something like this:

"language-upload-dialog-supported-files": ".csv, .xlsx, .kml, .shp, .gpx, or a .zip containing shapefiles",

Thanks Chris for the response. Good to hear from someone on the same boat.

Picture below is from Administrator and Developer Guide.pdf regarding FileGDB upload.

I like your idea to hide it from the dialog box, that's nice way to avoid confusion to users.

Does anyone know when this became a requirement to upload a file geodatabase?

    Thanks,

So, I guess this means for public facing maps, the public cannot upload a file geodatabase.  Correct?  Also, these means that in order for other organizations to upload a file geodatabase, we have to grant them a named user license to publish, correct?  Yikes.

    Thanks,
