auto expand layer list groups

Is there a way to set a group/folder to auto-expand when it is turned on? We have the swatches set to auto-expand but this doesn't extend to groups.

 

I hate having to tick the box for a group layer/folder and then expand the same group/folder to get to the next layer I want to turn on. Particularly if you have several nested groups this ends up being a lot of extra clicks.
